  3. Once upon a time the solution for anything that a kid did that was different was his fault and deserved a beating. Beatings were issued for:
    1. Poor grades 2. Constipation 3. Bed wetting
    4. Shouting 5.Running downstairs 6.Beatings from schoolmates 7. Loud laughing 8. Not eating 9.Eating and 10. Loud singing.
    (My father made a leather strap for this purpose.)

  4. Speaking a different dialect of English (as one does), "Don't let Daddy lick me" brought to my mind's eye images of a wet tongue, and the child's eyelid or ear...
    Funny language, English, eh?

  8. At first, though, I thought it was "He'll take one punishment or the other: hairbrush or laxative!" and that they were advertising the laxative as a form of corporal punishment.

  9. Just Plain Wrong is right. I hated castor oil! When I was a kid growing up in the 50's I'd run and hide when I saw my mom walking around with a dark bottle and spoon looking for me. She made me take a teaspoon every morning, it tasted like shoe polish.
